When Maka was small we used to take trips to the beach. during the day i would get distracted but at night, in our hotel room, Maka and her mother and I would all lie side by side on the queen-sized bed and read together.

What did you like about living with America?

The freedom I felt living in America-san's house. Certainly there were things I was expected to do - I couldn't just do nothing all day! But overall as long as I did my work to the best of my ability, at the end America-san would grin over dinner and thank me for the meal.

Ah, I suppose that's another thing I liked: America-san maybe doesn't always think things through, but he almost always has good intentions, and he's a really kind person. He's a little self-centered and very high maintenance, but well... it's not like I wasn't already used to that.

What did you like about living with Russia?

Well, you say "like", but...

I suppose Russia-san is a little confusing to me; I wish he would either be kinder or else be cruel all the time. Occasionally he makes me feel sorry for him, somehow, and sympathy is really one of the hardest things for someone who treats you so badly.

I suppose in his kinder moments Russia-san was all right. And I guess it's flattering that he wanted me so badly (even though I think he kind of wants everyone...).

What did you like about living with Poland?

Every day with Poland was interesting! Sure, most of the time it was a lot of work, and he can be really high-maintenance and bossy sometimes, but I guess... in the end, I could have left if I wanted to, and sometimes I told myself I wanted to leave, but you know - I never did. Besides, I know that Poland talks big but is actually shy, and so I don't mind being around for him to fall back on.

What's a quality in another person you dislike the most and why?

It varies from person to person, but I guess I like it better when people plan in advance and don't leave everything to the last minute. I'd say I don't like bullies, but I seem to spend an awful lot of time being pushed around myself, so I guess that's kind of a backward answer?

Both girls are pretty cute, and I've gotten somewhat closer to Ukraine now that we're all independent, but Belarus and I have more history. We live pretty closely to each other, and although she sometimes can be a little strange... well, we all came out of the Soviet Bloc a little worse for wear.

Why did you join the mafia?

This is a hard question to answer, because I don't really think about it much - I guess joining the Martillo was something I just kind of fell into, or was kind of raised into, and even though Maiza-san always used to talk about how I could have a normal life outside of the mafia, I don't really think it's true. I get along too well with Luck and the Gandors, and I'm just too good of a fighter.

If you did have a normal life, what do you think think you'd do? What kinda job, what sort of city, would you get married- stuff like that!

I don't know! It's hard to think of a job I'd rather do. I'm probably not cut out for hard labor, and I guess I can do math but it's not something that really gets me excited. Maybe I'd have become a politician or something? I like getting to meet new people, and I've been told I'm easy to like. I can't imagine living anywhere but the city, although I guess that's probably since I've never lived anywhere else. Like I said, I like meeting a whole range of people and getting to do a lot. I'd like to get married someday! Mafia or not.
